Art has always been one of the deepest ways through which we understand what it means to be human.

The faster the world changes, the more we find ourselves returning to fundamental questions:
What makes us human? What connects one person to another?

Artificial intelligence is now rapidly expanding into the realm of creation,

opening new possibilities for art while also prompting us to reconsider the meaning of human sensibility and experience.

The 2026 Seoul Arts & Future Talks, SAFT, is a place to explore the future of humanity and art from within this very moment of change.

Bringing together people from science and technology, philosophy and the arts, cities and festivals,

SAFT invites us to consider how we might coexist with a new kind of intelligence,

what art may newly create and what it must continue to preserve, and what kind of cities and communities we hope to build together.

The faster technology produces answers, the more deeply art can ask questions.

Sensibilities that cannot be explained by efficiency,
experiences that cannot be reduced to data,
and the moments when we share a space, look at one another, laugh, and are moved together—

these may be among the most profoundly human values that art allows us to hold on to.

I hope the Seoul Arts & Future Talks will be an open space where different ideas and experiences meet,

and where new questions and possibilities can emerge.

May the conversations that begin here in Seoul grow into a force that enriches our lives, our art, and the cities of tomorrow.

예술은 언제나 인간을 가장 깊이 들여다보는 방식이었습니다.

세상이 빠르게 변할수록 우리는 오히려 무엇이 우리를 인간답게 하는지,

2026 서울국제예술포럼 SAFT는 바로 그 변화의 한가운데에서 인간과 예술의 미래를 함께 바라보는 자리입니다.

과학과 기술, 철학과 예술, 도시와 축제라는 서로 다른 세계의 사람들이 서울에 모여
새로운 지능과 어떻게 공존할 것인지, 예술은 무엇을 새롭게 만들어내고 무엇을 지켜야 할 것인지,
그리고 우리는 어떤 도시와 공동체를 만들어갈 것인지 함께 이야기합니다.

기술이 더 빠른 답을 만들어낼수록 예술은 더 깊은 질문을 던질 수 있다고 믿습니다.

효율로 설명할 수 없는 감각, 데이터로 환원할 수 없는 경험,
그리고 같은 공간에서 서로를 바라보고 함께 웃고 감동하는 순간들.

그것이 예술이 우리에게 남겨주는 가장 인간적인 가치일 것입니다.

서울국제예술포럼이 서로 다른 생각과 경험이 만나

Art is the face of a city, and culture is the language through which that city speaks to the world. The Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture has long strived to share Seoul’s diversity and creativity with the world through art — discovering new empathy and possibilities for the future along the way.

Today, we are proud to open the Seoul Arts Future Talk (SAFT 2025) — a forum where art, technology, urban life, and policy come together to converse in a shared language.

More than just a venue for discussion, this forum marks the beginning of Seoul’s journey to become a city that speaks through art and leads through culture.

Art has always guided societies to reflect on themselves and imagine new futures.

If the economy and technology define a city’s pace, art and culture give that pace direction.

In this era of rapid change, Seoul seeks to speak through art about the dignity of living together in a city of harmony.

Culture today extends beyond competitiveness — it has become a vital infrastructure that connects people and communities.

As the world experiences a great transformation where culture and technology evolve together, we are reminded that art remains the most human force — preserving emotion, imagination, and empathy.

With this belief, Seoul aspires to add artistic balance to the future of technology and the city itself.

I hope the Seoul Arts Future Talk will be the first chapter of that dream.

이번에 새롭게 시작하는 <서울국제예술포럼(SAFT 2025)>은 예술, 기술, 도시, 정책이 한자리에 모여 서로의 언어로 대화하는 자리입니다.

이 포럼은 단순한 담론의 장을 넘어, 서울이 ‘예술로서 말하고, 문화로서 리드하는 도시’로 나아가는 여정의 출발점이 될 것입니다.

예술은 언제나 우리 사회가 스스로를 성찰하고, 미래를 상상하도록 이끌어 왔습니다. 경제나 기술이 도시의 속도를 만든다면, 예술과 문화는 그 속도에 방향을 제시합니다. 이제 서울은 빠르게 변화하는 시대의 중심에서, 예술을 통해 ‘함께 살아가는 도시의 품격’을 이야기하고자 합니다.

문화는 도시의 경쟁력을 넘어, 사람과 공동체를 잇는 새로운 인프라가 되고 있습니다.

We are living through a time when many of the boundaries we once took for granted are being redrawn.

Artificial intelligence is moving beyond its role as a tool that supports human knowledge and judgment.

It is beginning to create, to choose, and at times, to offer answers before we do.

As areas we once believed to be uniquely human rapidly change,

we once again find ourselves facing fundamental questions.

What will allow us to remain human?
What can art newly discover, and what must it continue to protect?
And what kind of future do we want to build together?

The 2026 Seoul Arts & Future Talks, SAFT, begins with these questions.

This year, SAFT brings together experts from across science and technology, philosophy and the arts, cities and festivals. Gathering in Seoul, they will explore how artificial intelligence is reshaping the conditions of human life and artistic creation,

while considering both the possibilities it opens and the responsibilities we must confront together.

That is why the role of art matters more than ever.

Art is among the first fields to experiment with the possibilities of new technologies,

but it also has the power to look beyond them—to see what lies beneath change,

to question it, and to make the familiar strange again.

Art reveals human senses and experiences that cannot be explained by efficiency and speed alone,

and offers new ways of imagining what kind of technology we want and what kind of society we wish to create.

Not a city that waits for the future,
but a city that creates the questions of the future through culture and art, Seoul.

우리는 지금, 익숙했던 많은 경계가 다시 그어지는 시대를 지나고 있습니다.

인공지능은 인간의 지식과 판단을 돕는 도구를 넘어 창작하고, 선택하고,

때로는 인간보다 먼저 답을 제시하는 존재가 되어가고 있습니다.

인간의 고유한 영역이라 믿었던 것들이 빠르게 변화하면서 우리는 다시 근본적인 질문 앞에 서게 되었습니다.

인간은 무엇으로 인간답게 남을 것인가.

예술은 무엇을 새롭게 발견하고, 무엇을 끝까지 지켜낼 것인가.

그리고 우리는 어떤 미래를 함께 만들어갈 것인가.

2026 서울국제예술포럼 SAFT는 이 질문에서 출발합니다.

올해 SAFT에서는 과학과 기술, 철학과 예술, 도시와 축제 등서로 다른 영역의 전문가들이

서울에 모여 인공지능이 바꾸고 있는 인간의 삶과 창작의 조건을 살펴보고,

그 변화가 열어놓은 가능성과 우리가 함께 고민해야 할 책임을 이야기합니다.

그렇기에 지금, 예술의 역할은 더욱 중요합니다.

예술은 기술의 가능성을 가장 먼저 실험하는 동시에,

그 변화의 이면을 낯설게 바라보고 질문하는 힘을 가지고 있습니다.

효율과 속도만으로 설명되지 않는 인간의 감각과 경험을 발견하고,

우리가 어떤 기술과 사회를 만들어갈 것인지 새로운 상상력을 제시합니다.

미래를 기다리는 도시가 아니라,

문화와 예술로 미래의 질문을 먼저 만드는 도시. 서울.

Looking back over the past decade, Seoul has been a truly dynamic city.

Behind its remarkable growth, there have always been layers of conflict and coordination — a journey filled with unpredictable ups and downs, much like a roller coaster ride.

Now, in the third year after the endemic, as many things have collapsed or disappeared,

new and unexpected forces — from the explosive evolution of AI to the global wave of K-culture — are rapidly reshaping our society and its peripheries.

As we enter November 2025, we once again pose fundamental questions about culture and the arts. Where do art, artists, and arts institutions stand today, after this turbulent time? And toward what future are they looking?

The Seoul Arts Future Talk (SAFT 2025) emerges at a moment when art, technology (AI), urban life, and policy intersect in ever more complex ways.

Through themes such as “The Co-evolution of Artistic Sensibility and Artificial Intelligence,”

“Seoulness and the Artistic City,” and “Locality and Attraction in Global Cities,”

the Forum seeks new ways to connect art, Seoul, and the world.

We hope this forum becomes a space where

art once again becomes the language of the city,

where culture and art connect cities across the globe,

and where those connections serve as buffers — bridging and healing

the gaps between difference and similarity, tension and flexibility, change and continuity.

In this autumn, as Seoul becomes deeply immersed in art,

the Seoul Arts Future Talk (SAFT 2025) aims to link art and the future,

and to take one step ahead in exploring the next directions of the arts

as a truly global platform for dialogue and imagination.

지난 10년을 돌아보면,

서울은 매우 다이나믹한 도시였습니다.

눈부신 성장의 이면에는 다양한 갈등과 조정이 공존해 왔고, 그 여정은 마치 롤러코스터를 타는 듯 예측할 수 없는 굴곡의 연속이었습니다.

엔데믹 이후 3년차, 많은 것들이 무너지고 사라져버린 자리에는 이제 AI를 필두로 한 기술의 폭발적 진화, K-열풍 등 예상치 못했던 변화들이 우리 사회와 주변부를 빠르게 채워가고 있습니다.

2025년 11월,

우리는 다시금 문화와 예술에 대해 질문을 던집니다.

격동의 시기를 지나 오늘을 맞이하고 있는 예술, 예술가, 예술기관은 동시대 좌표의 어디 즈음에 위치하고 있으며, 어느 곳을/무엇을 바라보고 있는지?

<서울국제예술포럼(SAFT 2025)>은

예술, 기술(AI), 도시, 정책 등 많은 것들이 분주하게 교차하는 지금, ‘예술감각과 인공지능의 공진화’, ‘서울다움과 예술도시’, ’글로벌 도시의 로컬리티와 매력‘ 등 다양한 주제를 통해 예술-서울-세계의 연결을 모색합니다.

예술이 다시금 도시의 언어가 되고, 문화와 예술이 도시를 넘어 세계를 연결하고, 그 연결이 서로의 다름과 같음, 긴장과 유연함, 변화와 머무름의 간극을 이어주고-메워주고-치유할 완충재로 작동할 그 가능성을 본 포럼에서 찾기를 기대합니다.

서울이 예술로 깊이 물드는 이 가을,

<서울국제예술포럼(SAFT 2025)>은 예술과 미래를 잇고, 예술의 다음 행보를 한 발 앞서 짚어보는 글로벌 공론장으로 그 역할을 다하겠습니다.
